HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE MARKS 2018 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF GIRL CHILD IN KOGI, DONATES PAD/HYGIENE PRODUCTS TO OVER 700 GIRLS

11th of October is noted to be the date set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the girl child globally and this was well commemorated in Kabba, the West Senatorial District of Kogi State by Heal for Africa Initiative, a not for profit organization committed to creating a society with Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education and Advocacy for Livelihood.

Charles Osagie reports that in line with the UN global theme, "A Skilled Girl Force", Heal For Africa Initiative visited over 700 girls at St. Monica's College Kabba with the Pay Attention To Her (PATH) Project, to empower the young girls mentally, as well as promoting sexual, reproductive health and rights.

The NGO's Chairman Board of Trustees, who doubles as the Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Governor, also an advocate for pregnant women and premature babies, Mrs. Petra Akinti Onyegbule spoke extensively on self esteem and building confidence as a girl child. With inspiring stories, she emphasized on the need to build their capacity and acquire skills for employability. The BOT Chairman brilliantly captured the PATH Project theme and the UN global theme of the 2018 girl child day.

The convener and Executive Director of Heal For Africa Initiative, Dr. Kelechi Okoro took time to enlighten the participants on menstrual health, sexual hygiene and their role in nation building. She also widened their knowledge about the implications of poor menstrual hygiene to their reproductive health, how they can better cater for themselves and be free of distractions emanating from ill health and how it translates into better self perception and self esteem which enhances their functioning.

YALI Kogi's representative, Miss. Bridget Ezeh; the Kabba origin CEO of Okun TV, Mr. Sunday Baye Aseda; as well as Heal for Africa Initiative's Project Manager and CEO House of Impact, Mr. Charles Osagie were on stage to consolidate on the PATH theme "The Empowered Girl". They took their turns to motivate the girls into joining in solving today's societal problems with several inspiring true life stories to aid retention.

A beautiful playlet which got a standing ovation was done by the Heal For Africa Volunteers to teach handling puberty and menstruation at their early stages. As well as resisting peer pressure and the role of a counselor for young girls.

Immediately after the convener took several questions from the eager girls, there was distribution of sanitary pads, deodorants, liquid antiseptics, soaps, tissue papers and other hygiene products to outstanding students at the event and to over 700 attendees.

The school Principal, Mrs. Olowokere Esther; the Chaplin, Fr. Donatus Ogunleye; the Head Girl, Miss Omieza Catherine; and other teachers in attendance were full of praises to the convener and her team for putting up such an awesome event in their school, which happens to be the third edition of the PATH School Tour behind Al Ansar Secondary School and Muslim Community Secondary School, both in Lokoja.

There was a lot of side attractions that made learning and the commemoration of the 2018 International Day of Girl Child fun for the students of St. Monica's College Kabba Kogi State.
